USB 2.0 Recognition

I've got an external dvd-r that worked fine in Windows
2000. I've recently picked up XP Pro, installed all
updates, and it's still not recognizing that the dvd-r is
usb 2.0. I'm using an Acer laptop with a PCMCIA card
that's a USB 2.0 adapter, a USB 2.0 cable, and the drive.
In Device Manager, I noticed that all Root hubs are still
there, and all device drivers are still there, but it's
not registering as a USB 2.0 device, so no drivers are
active. What can i do?

Check your DVD/CD-Rom from your manufacture of DVD-R. Propably they will
somewhere there drivers to enable support for USB 2.0.

Or check at you laptop's components.Stantard you will find something,
somewhere there.
