Look in Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers and make sure
the card slots are listed as Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller. If not,
then you need updated drivers.

card is listed in device manager. it was automatically detected by windows
when plugged in.

Unfortunatly i didnt found any driver by Googling.
i saw somewhere that the card drivers are already in WinXP, but something's
missing.

I had that problem.

SC Tom is right. If your USB Properties do not say Enhanced (or you
don't see Enhanced in Device Manager), you need an updated driver. It
must say Enhanced.

I choose to update my driver and let Windows search for it. I don't
remember know where it found it exactly, but I did not go to any site
and download anything. My new driver is a Microsoft driver.

Here is some info I found from Microsoft when I was trying to figure
this out:

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/connect/usb/usbfaq_intro.mspx.

I also made some notes about my situation as I went along:

Turning in a USB 2.0 device (like a printer) you might see a message
that says this device can perform faster if
it was connected to a high speed USB 2.0 device.

Maybe: The USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a High
Speed USB 2.0 port.
For a list of available ports, click here.

USB 1.X = 12.0 megabit per second (mbs) Full Speed
USB 2.X = 480 megabit per second, or 40 times faster than 1.1.

Right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager. Under
the USB Controller section
see if there is a red X.

Look in the Other device section (things with yellow question marks
and red X)

observe: Ethernet controller (with red X) who cares, I am wireless
PCI Modem (with red X) who cares, I don't use it
USB controller (with red X) here is the problem

Or maybe look here at this: Universal Serial Bus (USB)
Controller

This means the system has the ports, but the correct driver is not
installed. XP did not
come high speed drivers, but they do come in the service packs
(SP1), so it must now be
installed manually.

More information from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/connect/usb/usbfaq_intro.mspx

Right click the USB Controller in the Other devices section with the
red X in the question mark,
right click Properties and if it is disabled, click Driver and Update
driver, and let it search
for a new driver and hopefully find it and install it. Things will
refresh a few times.
The question marked red X on USB Controller will go away. You may be
able to just enable it,
but I did not try this.

Now look in the Universal Serial Bus Controller section for something
that says USB Enhanced Host
Controller - Enhanced is the key word which means high speed. If it
is not there, it is just a
USB 2.0, but not high speed.

After the update, there should now be at least one USB Enhanced Host
Controller. Does this mean that
now ALL the USB 2.0 connections are high speed? The driver version
for the USB device should now all
be 5.1.2600 or later. If not, upgrade them individually to the
current version.

You may (should) reboot after this to get your other USB device
working again. My wireless USB device connection didn't work after
the upgrade until I rebooted.

Under USB Printing Support it shows my correct printer which is the
thing that was complaining every
time I turned it on. No more complaints, always was 2.0 but now I am
now enhanced.

It is possible to configure a check box in the properties on the
device to never warn you about
errors. Probably not a good idea.

Some people hint that you need a BIOS update or change
something in your CMOS and some other
things. Could be, but not for me.

It all makes sense now.

Thank You
But seems that a lot of guys cant find a working 2.0 driver for it, its
detected 1.1 and cant be enhanced with the only driver made by Microsoft.

If you open Device Manager and then expand Universal Serial Bus
controllers do your/any USB devices as Enhanced or not?

I have 8 USB devices under mine. The last one of the top 4 says
Enhanced. It did not before, I don't remember what it said before but
I knew I was missing the Enhanced part. I think it just said USB Open
Host Controller. Now I have 3 of those, and one says USB Enhanced
Host Controller. They were all 2.0, but now I am Enhanced.

If I right click each of my USB devices and check the Properties,
Driver (even the Enhanced one), they are all from Microsoft
5.1.2600.0. I don't recall what it was before I upgraded it and I am
not going to roll it back to see.

So, do you have any that say Enhanced or not? If not, your driver is
not the correct one.

Under the Driver tab, choose to update and let it go to Microsoft to
look for a driver. If what you have is not the Microsoft 5.1.2600.0,
I would like to know what it is and the other details (date, etc.).
Did you try to do this update or not? Of course you will have to have
an Internet connection. There is nothing for anyone to "find". Let
Windows do the finding.

Do you show anything under Universal Serial Bus controllers as
Enhanced or not?
Do you have any yellow question marks or red Xs in your Device Manager
view?

Maybe you can look at a computer that works properly and shows a USB
Enhanced and compare things to yours. I think that is what I did
(finally). Once I saw the good one, I kept working on it until mine
said Enhanced. I had the same problem with a lot of guys - nobody
could tell me why I got that message. So, I checked with one silly
girl.

Have you tried just doing an update for each item listed under Universal
Serial Bus Controllers in Device Manager?
Just highlight each item and click on Properties and then click on the
Drivers Tab and then choose update.

No, Its not enhanced.
Under USB controllers i got
OPTi 82C861 PCI to USB Open Host Controller 5.1.2600 5512
USB Composite Device 5.1.2600.0
USB Root Hub 5.1.2600.5512

i tried update drivers, choose another onces but then winxp cant connect to
device.

I don't have XP, but I have Win2000Pro and it's hard to believe that the
above is all you have listed under
Universal Serial Bus Controllers in Device Manager.

If you are not using an USB mouse or USB keyboard, I would go into Device
Manager and uninstall everything under Universal Serial Bus Controllers and
ok out and then reboot and let XP reinstall your USP ports and controllers.

You should wait for others to approve of the above, since I do not have XP.

If you do the above, make sure nothing is connected to the USB ports on your
computer before uninstalling and rebooting.

Listed, yes, but as what? That's the important part of the question.

Some controller cards, such as some embedded on motherboards, physically are
USB2.0 capable but require drivers to operate in USB2.0 mode. Others,
older models, are physcally USB1.1 and simply can not operate at any higher
speed, period.

Some cards break down, and so do some cables, and both of those can reduce
speeds.

If it's not physically an enhanced device you won't get USB2.0 speeds.
Drivers won't help.

Where is this OPTi chip located, on a motherboard? If so, what is the
board make and model?

Your easiest solution might be to open the case, look for available slots,
and go get a USB2.0 PCI card for $20.

I searched for that model number and can't find it, BUT I found a DUB-A2
rev. A2. Here's the driver page for it. Look at the card itself and the info
on this page and see if that may be it.

Here are the different revisions:
http://www.dlink.com/products/support.asp?pid=150&sec=0#drivers

And here are the drivers:

And what the hell, the drivers may work for yours anyhow . Can't make it any
worse than it already is. ;)

Oh, I get it, maybe. Your believe on board USB port died or you could
not get rid of the balloon, so you added this PCI card DUB-A2 Rev2?
That in itself is curious to me. Did the original USB ever work
without a balloon? Did you replace the onboard USB with this card to
try to fix your balloon problem or are they really dead? They may not
be dead - maybe there was nothing wrong with them in the first place.
They may just need the proper drivers and not a replacement card.

Ditch the card, uninstlll everything to do with it, enable your
onboard PCI again, Look in Device Manager for a "normal USB display",
make sure it still works even with a balloon, check for Enhanced, if
you don't see it, update the drivers like I said until you do.

If you choose to run with the card and you follow the links that SC
Tom (right again) put up and look at the Dlink WWW pages, it help you
identify your card and pick and install the right high speed drivers.
There is even a swell PDF file with screen shots that shows Device
Manager when everything is installed properly, and "Enhanced" shows
up.

You only list three things under your USB controllers, which does not
sound right at all, with or without the card, plus their picture shows
the USB Devices belonging to a VIA chipset (on their device) and that
doesn't show up in what you listed that you see, so that means you are
still not having things correct.

At Pricewatch.com you can get a PCI USB2.0 card for as low as $7.39 which
includes free shipping and handling from GearXS.
If you want one with FireWire, etc, they are also listed at a higher price
from different mfgs.
If you order online today, you should have it by Friday, if you live in the
USA.

PS: Also check sites like NewEgg.com or go down to your local computer

Seems that this PCI USB controller isnt USB 2.0.
About drivers, both ports works fine as 1.1 so not a problem.
About OnBoard USBs, they died few days ago with my Hard Disk. Probably a
power shock.
Buren my Hard Drive and Onboard USB contollers.
USB was working fine 4 years.I got a OS image and restored it when USB
worked. But no luck, seems that they are fired up.

Im goin to order a USB 2.0 controller with NEC chipset, price is about 12
euro

Yes, they are cheap, and trivial to install. As an add-on card, you won't
likely need drivers.

The flip-side of the fact that they are cheap - is that they don't always
last forever. You may (or may not) find in a couple of years that you
suddenly start getting the same sorts of messages.
