USB 2 Error Messages

Shane Goodman

Greetings,

I have four high-speed USB ports on my laptop, but I keep getting an error
message in the notification area saying:

This device can perform faster
This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a
Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port.
For a list of available ports, click here.

All of my USB ports are 2.0. So why is Windows telling me to unplug it from
a 1.1 port and plug it into a 2.0 port?

Thanks,
Shane.

Are you plugging USB devices directly into a USB port or into a USB hub?
Check that any cabling is for USB 2.0 and not USB 1.1.

They are plugged in directly.

I don't receive the error message consistently. It only pops up about once a
week or so. The rest of the time everything works fine.

Thanks,
Shane.
