Upgrade from 98 to XP

I installed Windows XP in place of 98. Now, some functions don't work. For
example, I cannot use my CD Rom. Must I go back to W98?
My computer is a HP Pavilion, Model 6545C.

upgrading is not recommended for all HP Pavilion Desktop PCs, especially
where the base platform has not been tested and qualified by HP for use with
Windows XP.

Did you first do a WinXP Hardware and Software Compatiblity
check? If your systems hardware is so old as not
to have XP drivers for it then Yes you may have to return to
Win98.
