Will any files be lost if I upgrade from win98 to xp ?
Have a 'old' Dell with 1g ram etc., that I've used for mail.
Need a new printer; new 1 won't talk to 98, so.....
Are there any files that need backing up before the upgrade ?

Yes, the files you created should be backed up, including emails. After
the upgrade, you should switch from FAT32 to NTFS. Personally, I would
do a clean install of XP.

*Anything* is possible when you install or upgrade an operating system.
A software glitch or slippy user fingers could lead to the loss of all
files on the disk so backup all your precious files before you do the
upgrade! You should also create an image of the disk so that you can
restore the disk to its current Windows 98 installation in case things
go horribly wrong!
