I have upgraded a computer to Windows XP Pro from Windows 98 SE retaining the
FAT32 file system. When the computer boots it will not go past the Windows
98 logo screen, the progress bar just keeps running and the keyboard is
locked.
I can get it to boot into Safe Mode and into Safe Mode with Networking just
fine.
I have disable all startup drivers and programs that are not necessary.
When I boot using the /sos switch it loads past the drivers screen and hangs
on the screen that displays the information about the disk and partitions.
If I install any program or update that requires a reboot in Safe Mode and
then reboot it will boot up just fine that one time, if you reboot again it
will hang. All programs and drivers seem to be running fine when the
computer is booted.
Has anyone experienced this issue and is there a resolution for it.
Thanks,
Ron
