I've recently upgraded a laptop from win 98 se to XP pro but the old windows
98 is still there on the hard drive. How do I uninstall windows 98 without
effecting XP? I can still boot into 98 even though both OSes are on the same
partition

You could do this:
1. Boot into WinXP.
2. Open a Command Prompt (Start / Run / cmd {OK}).
3. Type this command:
set SystemRoot
4. Make a note of the response. This is your WinXP
system folder. Leave it alone.
5. Launch My Computer.
6. Find out where Win98 is installed. It is probably in C:\Windows.
In cannot be the same folder as the one noted in Step 4.
7. Rename this folder to Windows.98
8. Click Start / Run / notepad c:\boot.ini
9. Remove the reference to Windows 98.
10. Wait a week.
11. If all is well, delete c:\Windows.98.

Great. I'll give it a go. Thanks for your help!
