Unwanted startup

My computer starts automatically by itself at a certain time each day.
I have looked at all the programs that I have auto tasks on and there is
nothing I can find that will cause this.
This is very annoying as I am often away for several days and the thing
stays on. How can I fix this problem please.
I am running xp pro and office pro.

You've shut down the computer (turned it off) and it turns itself back on
all by itself?

I said *if* you want to email me. It is my signature file that goes on all
my posts so please don't take it personally. If your computer is completely
turned off and then starts itself again, you need to call the newspapers
because that's quite a trick and, well, to my knowledge, impossible.

Shut down means the computer is turned off completely. If you mean that you
have put it into Stand By or Hibernation and it reboots at a set time, I
would do a AV scan and a scumware scan (AdAware and Spybot, for example) as
well as run CWShredder and I would do it in Safe Mode.

By shut down I mean turned off like when you click the button that says turn
off computer and select "TURN OFF" not standby Hibernate or restart.
I have hibernate disabled.
Thanks anyway computer is clean and do not use hibernate so will just live
with it.
tks for time and effort spent in trying to help me.

Hi,

Not if the BIOS have support for configurable startup times (some
BIOSes have that).

Well, you could have a setting in your BIOS under power management that
would do that if someone sends you a fax, someone else on your LAN moves
their mouse. Go into the BIOS and see what is under Power Management. Sorry
about the previous posts but I called a friend who knows more than I and he
told me about this possibility.
