XP refuses to stop asking me to click on user name.

On my laptop with XP Pro, I sked the other day how to deactivate the
click on username when I boot up. On my other computers it boots right
into XP, but on this one, I have to click on user name before it totally
boots. It's just a small annoyance, but I thought I had fixed it using
TweakUi (in the Logon) option. It does fix it for a few bootups, then
it always goes back to asking for that click. Why wont it STAY where I
set it? (or where TweakUi set it).??????

I had a similar problem previously and it was easy to fix.
In TweakUI under the Logon options, does it include 'Show "ASPNET" on Welcome screen' ?
If so, make sure that you untick that box. Reboot.

That seems to have done the trick.....
Thanks

BTW: What does "ASPNET" mean?

I don't know, but I am sure somebody here will lets us know.

ASP.NET is referenced here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Server_Pages

Your machine can have some hidden accounts, and
that's probably one of them. There may be other
accounts which are just numbers.

*******

http://marksxp.mvps.org/WindowsXP/aspdot.php

"What is this new user account for? What created it?

The aspnet_wp or ASP.NET Machine Account is created
when the Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 is installed onto
a Windows XP computer. The user is created to run the
asp.net worker process used in Microsoft's
Internet Information Services [IIS web server], which
allows ASP.net to run on your local web server (This is
pretty much its only use, it is not used to run normal
.net managed executables). There is not a need to worry
about this user's presence; it was not created in
malicious way."

I've had IIS optionally installed on this machine, for
doing local FTP between computers. But it's not something
I leave running. A lot of people would just have that part
turned off, and would have no interest in running a web
server on their computer, to serve web pages to other people.
There may be some difference between WinXP Home and WinXP Pro,
as to availability.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Information_Services

"IIS 5.1 was shipped with Windows XP Professional, and
was nearly identical to IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000."

So for some WinXP Home user, they will be getting even
less usage from their ASPNET hidden account :-(

HTH,
Paul
