Unusal Modem Behavior-Winfax Port Starter

I recently installed an internal modem which came with Fax Talk Communicator.
It is disabled because I don;t use it often. everything was fine. I then
installed a program I have used in the past, Winfax. I have that disabled as
well. In this Win XP install , it installed something that was not present
under WinmE. In the WinXP startup group it put in "Winfax App. Port
Starter". I don't know what a "Port Starter" is? Can I remove it from the
start up group and still use Winfax as before by enabling when I want to use
it. The problem I am having is that whenever anyone calls (voice), the modem
comes on even though no program starts, and I am trying to talk on the phone
with this modem noise. This "Port Starter" is th eonly thing I can find that
might be the problem. Thank you

What version of WinFAX are you trying to use? Version 10.02 is the first
version that Symantec stated was XP compatible. It is/was not available as
a downloadable update to any previous versions, including Version 10.00.

Configure your incoming connection through Winfax. The setting IS there.

It is an older version. Version 8.03. It works fine for the little bit I
use it. I just wondered what this "Port starter" was. Thank you
