The problem is that the modem hangs when it answers a non-fax caller who then hangs up. It does not close. The old-fashioned fax program supplied with the modem works fine but I want to use WinFax. Any ideas? I am using XP SP2.

What specific version of WinFax 10 has been installed? IIRC,
an update might be required for Windows XP. Check the Symantec
website for any additional information.

In Program Setup, Options, Receive, General tab, what selections have
you made? Increasing the number of rings before the Winfax responds may
help.

Are any other programs sharing the 56K modem. Is there an ansaphone
service installed?

Sharing a telephone with incoming calls can be problematic. I had a new
phone line installed solely for faxes and another programme requiring a
56K modem. To connect with that programme I have to turn off Automatic
Receive in Winfax 10 Pro to be able to connect.

Hope this helps.

Use the program that works. Dont use the program that does not work.
