Using Winfax PRO with modem/fax card in DSL line

Hi,
I have a modem/fax in my computer and I also have high speed Internet access
using a DSL modem. I have connected the modem/fax and the DSL modem to the
same phone line using the filter.
I intalled the Winfax PRO software in order to use my computer for
send/receive faxes. The installation was OK.
But this software doesn't work. When I try to send a fax I give the number,
I heard the tone but when the Winfax PRO software try to negotiate with the
fax I receive an error and I lost the connection.
I don't know If the problem is because my phone line was setup for DSL modem.
Does anybody has the same problem? Until now I couldn't send or receive any
fax.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with Windows. Just because you're running
the software under XP doesn't mean this is the correct place to be asking -
you need to direct your questions to the software *developer*, i.e.
Symantec.

Unlike most dial-up modems, a DSL modem is not capable
of connecting to fax machines, so you cannot send or receive faxes
directly.
In order to send and receives faxes, you'll need a conventional fax modem
with a live telephone line attached. You cannot use broadband unless you
use a web-base fax service, such as eFax:
http://www2.efax.com/en/efax/twa/page/homePage?rqcp=1

Or consider purchasing a regular fax machine and connect it to your phone
line.

Can I FAX over DSL?

Miss Perspicacia,
Your answer is not related with my question. If you consider this is not the
right place for my question I appreciated do not answer in that tone.
I just was trying to find someone with the same kind of problem sending fax
with a DSL line. I have the same problem using the Fax Console of Windows.
Of course I checked out with the software developer first. I'm not a fool.

Unfortunately, WinFax Pro is a Symantec product and it has the further
unfortunate characteristics of (a) not working correctly under WindowsXP and
(b) making a total mess out of the Fax service that comes with XP. If you
must use WinFax Pro, I suggest you look for version 9.x which, from many
reports posted to this group, was the LAST version of WinFax that worked
correctly with WindowsXP. As you've probably noticed, Symantec Customer
Service on their WinFax Product is all but non-existent

Hal,
I was trying to use the Fax Console that Windows brings. And I have the same
problem, I received and "ERROR GRAVE" which means something like BIG ERROR
when I try to send a fax. I have right know both (Winfax PRO and FAX Console)
installed in my computer. Do you think I must uninstall winfax pro and just
try with fax console? Do you thinh that some files were corrupted by winfax
pro?
What can I do to send faxes using my PCMCIA fax/modem card? What software do
you recomend me?

As I suggest, WinFax 10.0x has three very bad habits: (1) It does not and
has not run well or correctly under Windows XP - The last version that did
run was 9.x. (2) WinFax Pro usually messes up Windows XP Fax to the point
it won't run. (3) Symantec's technical support for WinFax is all but
non-existent. As to other products, I know of two:

http://www.faxtalk.com/
Fax Messenger Pro
www.pigeonline.com
Pigeon Mail n Fax
