Unfortunate...

So I guess the zillions or so people still using 98/se/ME
will just have to stick with the already well developed
competition products (AdAware and Spybot). Too bad.

I will never understand how loads of shareware writers can
make s'ware that will run on just about any version of
Windows, but MS can only get stuff to work on the
latest/greatest versions?

I guess it's like the car manufacturers not making parts for that 1948 Buick
anymore.
It's like kicking the kids out of the house and telling them to go get a
job.
Or other software makers not supporting their older products. There's a time
that you just have to quit supporting something. Eventually Adaware and
Spybot will both quit supporting older versions. It's called a product
lifecycle.

The decision to drop support for W9x is a business decision, not a
techincal one many times...

*lol* Oh brother! There's a difference between not making
parts for the 84 Buick, and actually recalling the parts
that are still in the warehouse. M$ had to physically
remove 9x compatibility from this software. It's a mildly
re-worked version of Giant (which _was_ 9x compatible)
that they bought the rights to, and also hired Giant
personnel to modify.

Life-cycle/schmife-cycle. Greed, baby. Bill needs to buy a
new college for his kids, so he's forcing 9xers to upgrade
early.

No. Not anti-spam. Anti-spyware. And since its the biggest
problem on the internet right now, and since 80 percent of
users out there still haven't the foggiest notion of what
spyware is, M$ will now finally spend some M-bucks to
advertise and educate the end-user on what spyware is.
They'll finally start inflating rather than downplaying
security threats. Ka-ching. Gotta have me the latest
protection that only M$ can provide.

You're right. It is a hoot. :)
