Windows 98 SE with all latest patches. Internet Explorer
6 hangs when executed from desktop shortcut or quick
launch icon.

It will launch from Windows Explorer/Internet Explorer.

System was loaded with parasites. Ran CWShredder,
Adaware & Spybot S&D in Safe Mode. Still no luck.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Redfox -

Are you confident that you've detected and removed all the possible malware
and parasites from your machine? What about other virus and malware scans,
have you done any? Have you tried making new shortcuts on the QL and desktop
and seeing if they work?

McAfee AVERT Stinger

avast! Virus Cleaner - free virus & worm removal tool

NOTE: With the above tools, particularly Avast Virus cleaner, be sure to
disable your in PC Anti-virus utility.

Try F-Prot for DOS (I don't believe this will work on XP systems however)

*Most important* - Before you try to remove spyware using any of the
following programs, realize that the process of cleaning and removing
certain spyware and malware may possibly interrupt and kill your internet
connection.
Therefore, you should obtain a copy of LSPFIX, and Winsockfix which will
then make it possible for you to re-establish your internet connection
should it be terminated.

Download LSPFIX from either of the following sites:

http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html (For Win2k or XP)

I have run McAfee & F-Prot. Creating new shortcuts yield
the same result. I suspect this is a registry entry
since I can access Internet Explorer through Windows
Explorer. Problem is I don't have a clue what to look
for.

I don't know what you would look for in the Registry. I'm not even sure that
an answer to the problem is to be found in there, so I'm not about to make
any suggestions in that regard.

No error messages and it just hangs, eh? General troubleshooting may be in
order, if you've scanned with *every* malware detector that you can use.
