unable to ping computer's IP address but can everywhere else ...

I cannot ping the IP Address assigned to the computer ...
(192.168.0.5)- assigned via DHCP

I can ping 127.0.0.1
I can ping the gateway

ipconfig -all looks correct comes back with local address as ip 192.168.0.5
gateway/dns 192.168.0.1

I definitely have a bad routing table ... because all the metrics are 1, but
have been unsuccessful in getting it to repair

I cannot complete a pathping to 192.168.0.5 it goes to 0.0.0.0 instead of
192.168.0.5

I have done netsh int ip reset - no help
I have reinstalled TCP/IP numerous times - no help
I have swapped network cards - no help
I put back the original Windows 2000 Pro ... upgraded to XP - no help
I have run winsock repair for a couple of places - no help
I have manually deleted the Winsock and Winsock2 in the registry - no help

I bought another hard drive, clean install, it worked fine, so I know it is
software and not hardware, but do not know how to repair the main system.

Any ideas would be helpful

Try comparing your two routing tables (route print) and then change the one
that does not work to match the one that does (route change). The first two
lines should look like this:

Active Routes:
Network Destination Netmask Gateway Interface
Metric
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.5
20
127.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1
1
