Unable to install Fax Services

Lisa

Hello out there. Any help on this is greatly appreciated,
as I'm unable to get help from my OEM. I have been
unsuccessful in installing and configuring Fax Services
with Windows XP Home. In my attempts to get it working, I
uninstalled the Windows component, then attempted to
reinstall. The service will not reinstall from my OEM
CD. I have tried five or six times. Is there a driver
missing on my CD? Any suggestions would be great . . .

List the prompts you are getting and what happens when you're prompted for
your installation files. Where do your installation files reside?

Hi Russ -

I am never prompted for a location for installation
files. I have been taking the following steps:

1) Control Panel
2) Add/Remove Programs
3) Add/Remove Windows Components
4) When I check Fax Services and click next, the Windows
Component Wizard dialog box comes up and says "Configuring
Components" and runs through a whole install process
(never seems to read from the CD ROM though). Then it
says "You have successfully completed the Windows
Component Wizard.

However, when I click finish and go back to the Add/Remove
Windows Components, the Fax Services box is still
unchecked. Also, when I go to
ProgramsAccessories/Communications/Fax, the folder is
empty.

Is there a way to check to see if the Fax Console
executable is on my system?

Thanks!

Have you tried restarting the computer after installing?

My other question was where your original installation files reside. Do you
have a Windows XP HCL list analog fax modem on your PC?

Not sure about install files --- c:/i386, I think.

The modem is listed as a 56K Telephony Data/Fax Modem for
Windows on my spec sheet and listed as BCM V.92 56K Modem
in my device manager. I also have a driver and utility
disk that shipped with it from Dell. Are internal modems
listed on the HCL?

Thanks again!
