Unable to install fax services.

I am using Windows XP. Sometime back I removed Fax service from my system
using "Add/Remove Windows Components" and removed the Fax Service. However
now I want to use the Fax services but I am not able to install fax services
even after repeated attempts. Please give me a solution. Thanks

Now I want to use Windows Fax to send/receive faxes. When I tried to install
fax service from Add/Remove components, the Windows Components Wizard runs
successfully but Fax Icon is not visible either in the Control Panel nor in
Fax Management Console is available in Accessories->Communications->Fax.
Accessories->Communications->Fax is shown as [Empty].
I do not know how to access Fax management console and send/receive fax.
Please send me some suggestions.

Making sure that the options to search in system folders and subfolders
are selected, do a search for files beginning with the letters fxs.
What do you have (and where)?

[fxsclnt.exe is the fax console, but other files need to be installed as
well.]

Also verify that you are using an analog fax modem on the Windows XP HCL
list. State what prompts you received during the installation routine.

2. Why can't the XP Fax Installation Program find the Installation Files?

In this case, it sounds you may have security data base corruption as
documented here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884018/EN-US/
You cannot add a Windows component in Windows XP

You can either:

1. Get the hotfix mentioned in the KB article and install it. Microsoft
usually waives any charges for support calls to get supported hotfixes
listed in Knowledge Base articles.

2. Try this procedure using the Esentutl.exe utility mentioned in the KB
article to recover from security database corruption:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00270202
HP and Compaq Notebook PCs: Unable to Install Windows XP Fax Software

Note that Microsoft does NOT recommend that you use the Esentutl.exe utility
and would prefer you try the hotfix.
