Unable to delete cookies

In the folder c:\doc.....\owner\local settings\temp int files there were
approximately 250 cookies. I was able to delete all but about 25.
These all have the same date & "last accesed & last checked" are
the same date. If I remember I believe I had a system crash
that date. Is it possible these cookies are set to read-only?
How can I delete them? marvo

Have you tried using a more direct route to the cookies:
Documents and Settings\<user name>\Cookies.

Yes. I am able to delete those cookies in the direct route with no problem.
I even have a short cut to them. There are no cookies there only an
an index.dat file. I even went into the problem directory (Windows Exp) &
tried to change the properties from read only. This did not
work. I even tried in DOS but I could get no further
than c:\doc.....\owner to a below subdirectory. I believe
when the system crashed it caused the problem. I still
have a W95 computer which has the same problem. It
had a crash & I still have cookies which are 4 years old.
I can live with it but there must be a way to change the
properties on each cookie or on the folder in DOS.
thks....marvo

Was able to get into the subdirectories by using dir/a.
Worked my way into the temp int files dir but could
not see the cookies. I did see an IE5 directory though
but figured I better stop before I "screw up"
A little knowdledge is a dangerous thing. I will
wait for your response. marvo

Suggestions:

--Since the system had a crash, run chkdsk: Right click the icon for your
hard drive. Select properties. Click Check Now. Chkdsk will warn you that
it can't run at the moment and ask to run at the next startup. Ok the
request. Restart the computer.

--Use Internet Options>Temporary Internet Files> Delete Files. Say yes to
delete offline content. Say yes to delete cookies.

--Try Start>Find and search for *.txt files or searching by the name of the
cookie files. Include hidden and system folders in the search.

--Read some info about index.dat files in XP at:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_i.htm
