Tried to update, now WMM1 won't run!

I have Windows XP Professional with service pack 2. I've been using Windows
Movie Maker 1 and wanted Windows Movie Maker 2.1.

Microsoft said I could only get it through updates but I have sp2 already
and WMM2.1 isn't coming through the updates. So I followed directions on
Microsoft's troubleshooting page for people who have sp2 but WMM isn't
updating.

Well, not only did I not get WMM2.1 but now WMM1 won't work for me. I'd
rather have the old WMM than none at all!

Here's what it tells me when I open WMM:

EventType : BEX P1 : moviemk.exe P2 : 2.0.3312.0 P3 : 3e038613
P4 : comctl32.dll P5 : 6.0.2900.2180 P6 : 4110968c P7 : 0006c82c
P8 : c0000409 P9 : 00000000

C:\DOCUME~1\ktm\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER4a75.dir00\moviemk.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\ktm\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER4a75.dir00\appcompat.txt

I reinstalled the program using this method:
http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/windowsxp/articles/418/1/How-to-Reinstall-Windows-Movie-Maker ...but it didn't work.

BTW, my system specs are AMD Anthlon 64 3000+ 2.01 ghz 1GB RAM ATI Radeon
9600 Pro graphics blah blah blah.

What can I do? I'd really just like to update to WMM2.1 but if anything, I'd
like WMM1 to work. My license or warranty or whatever for my version of
Windows is up and I can't talk to technical support. Please help! :/

Just a few thoughts.....

Could you do a system restore to a
time before you did the updates?

Have you seen the following articles:

Bad Installation Of Movie Maker 2.1

What can I do if I upgrade to Windows
XP SP2 and Windows Movie Maker 2.1
is not installed successfully?

Have you tried downloading and
reinstalling SP2:

Download Windows XP SP2

Generally, users install from the net but this
site allows you to download the complete
file to your hard drive before installing.

It's good for a network administrator because
you can burn it on a CD and install it on as
many computers as you need to.

And it's good for a single machine because
if you ever need to install it again...you'll have
it available without waiting for a download.
