Transfer of outlook2003 pst file from xp to outlook2003 on vista

I have recently purchased a new vista laptop and installed outlook2003 on it.
After I replaced the pst file with my old pst file from outlook 2003 which
was running on XP i get an error message saying "Unable to open your default
e-mail folders. the file C:\users.....pst is not compatible with this version
of the personal Folders information service"

Any suggestions?

How did you try and replace it?
You should File | Open to open it and then copy items over. Make sure it is
not set a read-only first.

Hi Bil

Thanks for your interest in my problem. i replaced the pst by copying it
onto an external hard drive and then replacing the pst file under users/local
etc with the one from the external hard drive. Clearly a bad idea!

Since i have, obvously in error, now deleted the original (blank) pst file,
do i need to reinstall outlook in order to file/open? BTW i did try the
import function but does not seem to want to allow the import from outlook to
outlook - could not find an option allowing that.

Hi Bill and K

Discovered that the problem had nothing to do with vista - had stupidly
installed 2002 onto the the new laptop rather than 2003!

Sorry to have provided incorrect info.

lol. 2002 doesn't support the Unicode PST. Still remember not to overwrite a
PST like you did. It can cause problems.

Hi All,

I am having the same sort of problem. Here's what I did:

Burned .pst to a CD-R
copied it at home to an external HD
Tried to open and got the incompatibility message
Ensured it wasn't read only
I think it is because the .pst was from a newer version of Outlook than this
one XP 2002 SP3.
Can I make this work?
