Transfer of outlook 2003 pst file from XP to outlook 2003 on vista

I have recently purchased a new vista laptop and installed outlook2003 on it.
After I replaced the pst file with my old pst file from outlook 2003 which
was running on XP i get an error message saying "Unable to open your default
e-mail folders. the file C:\users.....pst is not compatible with this version
of the personal Folders information service"

apologies -was worried it would not be dealt with under general - only saw
the install an configure option later.
