Denene P.

Hello,
I need help with the following issue;
Somehow a toolbar named "ISearch" has installed it's in
my browser window. It has taking away the option for me
to unlock, hide, or delete any toolbars and keeps
resetting it's self as my home page (it rests it's self
every time I go between pages).
"ISearch" does not show up in Add/Remove programs. I did
find it in my registry using "regedit" and in my windows
directory using the windows search feature. I removed it
fromal areas it was present in but the toolbar still
remains as well as the problems it causes. !!HELP!!

It is malware. Download, install, update and run the programs below. They
are free
and very effective. Be sure to run both SpyBot and Adaware, as what one does
not detect the other may. Follow the directions carefully.

SpyBot Search & Destroy: Free

or

AdAware: Free

Lavasoft's Ad-aware will dispose of this pest for you, freeware, too.

installation to obtain the latest Reference File.

I just had this, too. It's some sort of intrusive program that just
latched onto Internet Explorer.

You can get rid of it by running Ad-Aware, if you already have it on
your computer. If you do *not* have it on your computer, then you
need to take a couple of steps first, because you won't be able to
access the Ad-Aware Website (lavasoftusa.com).

ISearch edits your hosts file, redirecting various Website names to
bogus addresses. Thus, if you try to go to www.lavasoftusa.com, your
browser will be redirected to IP address 127.0.0.23. This is bogus.
You'll get a "Cannot Find Server" error. ISearch does this in order
to prevent you from getting help or downloading software you can use
to remove it. Of course, by doing this they have also identified for
us the various Websites that might be useful in removing the program
or preventing it from infecting our computers...

The hosts file lives in different folders, depending on your version
of Windows. You can find it by searching for the file name, "hosts".
When you find it, use Notepad to edit it. Remove all the entries
except for the first line, which should say:

127.0.0.1 localhost

To be honest, I don't know whether you even need the hosts file, but
just to be safe I left it there.

Once you have fixed the hosts file, you can access the lavasoftusa.com
Website and download Ad-Aware. This program will help you to remove
ISearch (and other malware) from your computer. Follow the
directions. It's simple, and it's free.

ISearch's Website understandably has no contact information on it. No
doubt they are reluctant to take the heat for their behavior.
However, I checked the Whois.net listing, and found the following
information:

Administrative Contact:
Manager, Domain (e-mail address removed)
701 Brazos
Suite 500
Austin, TX 78701
US
866-845-6873

I hope this helps.

Yes, there is a link ,and I think you might be interested to read this. I
found it while researching the malware earlier. This is the home page for
the actual ISearch company, which is a legitimate company, and they have
provided a removal tool to remove a toolbar that also affects the computer,
and an explanation of the fact that the malware is not related to their
company..
