Toolbar Trouble

L

Les

I removed the iSearch toolbar but now I have no Search
button on Internet Explorer's toolbar. When I right click
on the toolbar to customise it the remaining options are:

Standard Buttons
Address Bar
Links
iSearch Toolbar
Text Labels

All the options apart from "Text Labels" are greyed out.

I downloaded IE6 again and reinstalled it but the problem
persists. :-(

Can anyone help?

Thanks for the help Jack, but I think Les has the same problem I do and your reply doesn't quite answer the problem.
My problem (and I think Les' also) in not how to get rid of the iSearch toobar - but the fact that after I did get rid of it, my toolbar option controls seem to be locked

Somehow I got an iSearch toolbar installed (I think it is called 'having my toolbar 'hijacked'). I ran an Ad-Aware 6.0 scan and it didn't help. I was told about Spybot, went to their site and ran a trial Spy Sweeper scan. It found and removed the iSearch toolbar - along with a few other pieces of software and a bunch of adware and cookies. So far, so good

But after I ran the Spy Sweeper scan and rebooted, I opened IE6 and found that my IE toolbar had been altered. Some tools had been removed and the order of tools on the bar had been changed. I right clicked on the bar to go to 'Customize' in order to put things back the way they were. But to my surprise, 'Customize' no longer appeared on the menu. In fact, only one enabled menu choice remained...'Text Labels'. 6 other menu items appeared, but were not enabled. 'Standard Buttons', 'Address Bar', 'Links' and 'My Websearch' were turned on but not enabled - so they can't be turned off. 'McAfee VirusScan' and Copernic' were turned off and not enabled - so they can't be turned on. 'Customize' isn't even on the menu anymore

Also, if I go to the 'View' menu/ 'Toolbars', I get the same very limited menu

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing IE6 with no effect. I have tried going into Advanced Options and disabling IE extensions and then rebooting - with no effect. I am considering re-installing 2000 or even reformatting my programs partition. But I thought I would ask here first if anyone knows what happened to my toolbar option controls and how to fix it with something less drastic than a reformat

Thanks to anyone for any help. And Les, if I misunderstood and this is not your problem, too, my apologies

I went to this site and followed the instructions for regedit. I tried changing the values of the 'NOBANDCUSTOMIZE' AND 'NOTOOLBARCUSTOMIZE' keys in both the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer folders to zero. This enabled the toolbar menu items which had been disabled. But 'Customize' still does not appear on the toolbar menu. So I tried deleting the 4 keys...still no 'Customize' and the existing menu items were diabled again - so I reinstalled the 4 keys and set the values to 0. This enabled the menu items, but still no 'Customize'. I've already run Spy Sweeper and Ad-Aware 6.0 until I got negative scans. I had some difficulty finding SpyBotSD as most of the links that come up for it on Google seem to be broken. But I just found an active download link on cNet and downloaded spybotsd12.exe. I have to run through the tutorial before I run it

Any further ideas? (BTW - thanks for getting me back the menu items that were disabled
