Tired of it all, come on Linix

I have personally updated 5 computers, only one is always
under my control, one belongs to an old woman who is almost
functionally illiterate. All updates went w/o a hitch. No
problems other than the expected need to enable programs
access through the firewall.

| You guys are taking my LinUx comment too seriously. I've

solves, there are

and when I tried

wasn't such a

If you've got a problem with one of Henry's cars, you can talk to someone.

I spent the last two days trying to remove an about:blank trojan from a
computer someone had not updated. Finally got it and then tried to download
all the new updates, got all the way through the Office SP3 one before it
asked for the disk. Of course the client doesn't know where it is.

Now I can't even update my computer and no one gives a s--t. Henry Ford
would care.

Two days to remove about:blank? That's a waste. With the right tools
and some knowledge it should have been snappy. An alternate of backing
up the data and doing a clean install with a slipstreamed version of SP2
wouldn't have taken a day either. Maybe some of this frustration is
self induced?

Hey Philanderer,

Your solution will not solve the problem permanently. Haven't you got anything better? If not then stop producing illegimate children as they are difficult to maintain on the state.

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

You can be happy with M$ because you get chance to bash all the MVPs you come across. I am enjoying it though I don't use many M$ products!! The only product I use is something called Windows XP Professional.

Michael stevens site givs you a utility to enable you to get a pirated Windows XP and that is exactly what I have done. Michael is a jolly good fellows but not for too long!!! He is fond of young underage boys and so I have reported him to FBI!! Wait and see what happens!!

Of course LinUx is not the answer. But why should I be happy with MS? It's
always such a big fight to get things solved. Stop adding useless stuff to
your new versions that I have to undo, just fix the stuff you have out there.

I'm not letting up. While Gates is spending his energy on buying search
engines instead of fixing his software. It's a joke. It doen'st work, when
you update it you find new problems. It's a joke. The whole Microsoft
monopoly is a joke.

There are a number of Linux programs for dial-up connections. I
installed WVDial many years ago and it is *not* difficult. For an
introduction, look at:-
http://open.nit.ca/wiki/?page=WvDial

Then spending your time here is getting close to if not passing
trolling.
If you want Linux, you have many options.
If all you want to do is whine about "The whole Microsoft monopoly is
a joke" then you are trolling.

I'm not endorsing Linux, and not a Micael Moore monoply hater. It's just
obvious that MS puts out a product with a lot of flaws, won't take your call
or otherwise help you, and Gee wouldn't it be nice if they had some
competition so they had to actually had to respond to, and court their
customers.

I don't know what trolling is, but that is my point. Not that Linux is any
answer. Just seems that someone ought to make life rough for MS so they
might actually have to care bout their customers.

I have been very happy with Microsoft, there are flaws, but
they are fixed. This is a free country, you're free to open
your own company and put MS and Mr. Gates out of business.

Trolling is essentially posting with the main intention of stirring up
dissent with nothing productive intended.

Most issues with SP-2 are easily resolvable with a simple
reconfiguration or update from appropriate manufacturer.
Many of these are really non events since they are expected.

Another major cause is a problem with the computer.
ALL problems whether known or unknown MUST be resolved before
installing patches especially something as extensive as a Service
Pack.

As to your comment "It's just obvious that MS puts out a product with
a lot of flaws"
Do you mean Windows or SP-2?
In the case of SP-2 more testing was probably performed with it than
possibly any other piece of software.
However complete testing for all possible configurations is impossible
by anyone including Microsoft.

This is a newsgroup where people come for help with Windows XP.
It is not a place for anyone to come just to complain about
Microsoft, Bill Gates, Windows, or anything else, *regardless* of
the merits of your complaints.

I don't know what trolling is, but that is my point.

Trolling is what you are doing, being argumentative for the sake
of arguing, in a setting where that sort of an argument is
off-topic and inappropriate. Trolls quickly find their way into
the killfiles of people who participate in the newsgroup for its
intended purpose. They therefore get ignored by almost everyone.

Either you come here to get help with Windows XP or to help
others with XP information,. If you don't want to do either of
those, you're a troll, and will get killfiled.

Linux probably isn't the answer for you. I tried three distributions of
Linux, because I was seriously considering moving to Linux instead of
upgrading from Windows98 to Windows XP.

It's actually a very good operating system, but it is more difficult to
use than Windows. Not more difficult to install -- the install is a
beautiful experience, much better than the Windows install. But more
difficult to add and delete new programs, or configure new hardware.

If you struggle to use Windows, chances are you won't be able to handle
Linux. The reason I didn't switch was the very poor support in Linux
distributions for dial-up modems -- I use dial-up. Linux is perfect with
high speed connections. Flawless. But the drivers aren't very good, or
don't exist, for dial-up, so I decided to move to Windows XP instead of
Mandrake.

The problems with Linux and dialup are almost always because of using a
PCI "winmodem" which is not a real modem at all but a telephone
interface to the CPU, and the manufacturers (like Lucent) will not
release the hardware code for Linux developers to write proper drivers
for their devices. If you use a _real_ modem (such as an external modem
connected via a serial port, which BTW cost about $10-20 more than the
cheap PCI "modems") you will have no problem with dialup and Linux.
