Tired of it all, come on Linix

I am so tired of MS and there "You're stuck with us so screw you" attitude.
I have to turn off Automatic updates because SP2 will ruin my VPN. So like a
good boy I go to update manually and it won't work. So....like a good boy I
email them with my quesiton...then after sending I see that they will respond
within one day. $100 says the response tells me to do something obvious I've
already done. I'll send an email telling them that yes, I know the thing has
to be plugged in, and 5 days later I'll just be tired of it all and say
"screw it".

It's bad enough these people can't make things that work, but then they
won't answer the phone and hire zombies reading off some troubleshooting flow
chart.

I'm just so tired of it all. MS needs some competition. They really don't
give a s--t.

You are very likely to have problems with Linux also since you can't even
spell it correctly.

Carey that's where I was. I thought I was going to get live support. After
I copied and pasted to that window, I submitted and was told someone would
get back to me in a day. Then I remembered that I didn't specify that I
checked the services mentioned (I'm a MCSE so I have a clue about
services.msc). Now that means I'll wait a day before telling him that yes, I
did read the error and check the services.

Of course LinUx is not the answer. But why should I be happy with MS? It's
always such a big fight to get things solved. Stop adding useless stuff to
your new versions that I have to undo, just fix the stuff you have out there.

Linux has the same amount of problems just like Windows, only difference,
they are not publicized.

If you've got a problem with one of Henry's cars, you can talk to someone.

I spent the last two days trying to remove an about:blank trojan from a
computer someone had not updated. Finally got it and then tried to download
all the new updates, got all the way through the Office SP3 one before it
asked for the disk. Of course the client doesn't know where it is.

Now I can't even update my computer and no one gives a s--t. Henry Ford
would care.

Well, you could have stopped at around DOS 3.1. There
weren't too many bugs and it wasn't very bloated.

Useless is in the eye of the beholder. For
every "useless feature" I'm sure there's a fan. My
mother even likes the paper clip "guy" in Office ;-)

Yeah but a lot of times it still won't do you any good.
I've owned some of Henry's cars. ;-)

Of course if Windows cost $30K maybe I could have had a
personal service advisor to tell me how the latest
breakdown was going to cost me another $800.
Of course the client doesn't know where it is.

On the other hand, my local Ford dealership kept loosing
my lug key and then kept asking me where it was. At least
your client gets to blame himself for the loss ;-)

Jupiter, you beat me to the second link. I spent to much time looking for a
Commodore 64 retailer first.

I remember DOS 3.1. You didn't wait 5 days and hope you could get the
attention of someone who actually read your detailed email. If you had a
problem, you called them.

Linux probably isn't the answer for you. I tried three
distributions of Linux, because I was seriously considering moving
to Linux instead of upgrading from Windows98 to Windows XP.

It's actually a very good operating system, but it is more
difficult to use than Windows. Not more difficult to install --
the install is a beautiful experience, much better than the
Windows install. But more difficult to add and delete new
programs, or configure new hardware.

If you struggle to use Windows, chances are you won't be able to
handle Linux. The reason I didn't switch was the very poor support
in Linux distributions for dial-up modems -- I use dial-up. Linux
is perfect with high speed connections. Flawless. But the drivers
aren't very good, or don't exist, for dial-up, so I decided to
move to Windows XP instead of Mandrake.

I knew there had to be someone, somewhere.

You guys are taking my LinUx comment too seriously. I've also tried
Foxfire...twice. It's fine but for all the problems it solves, there are
just too many compatability issues with sites....and I've got better things
to do than email every site that isn't Mozilla friendly.

I just had two days of work that were made by MS problems, and when I tried
to update machines, that wouldn't work. And when I tried to get help, I
couldn't get help. I wouldn't mind the problems if there wasn't such a
"we're not going to help" attitude.

There are only a handful of mechanics who know about a Model
T still alive. Perhaps you should get your ducks all in a
row before you begin shooting or updating.

Wow! I never had that kind of luck. I was the
unofficial PC support guy for a small division of a
Fortune 500 company at that time and I don't recall ever
getting much of an answer from them about anything. I
think you may be viewing history through rose-colored
glasses. I'll take Internet support groups over any
phone support I've experienced.

I remember when WordPerfect 5.0 came out. First I was on
hold for 9 hours, (they prided themselves on having the
best phone support in the industry but 5.0 clogged it up
totally) then I got someone who wanted to know things
like my CPU, motherboard, hard disk size, etc. and
answers like "I've verified the problem on 4 completely
different PCs" didn't cut it.

It has *far* more problems. And far more updates are needed, and entire
kernel recompiles. Trust me you won't be moaning about Windows Update when
you go through all that. ;-)
