Every time I finish with a program, I get the
message "Windows Installer" and just below the header
message is: "Installion in progress." I have waited up 30
min. for something to happen and nothing does. I have to
re-boot at this point.

Try this:-

Start>Run>and type regsvr32 msi.dll


then

Go to Start/Run and type

SFC /SCANNOW >Enter

Hope this will fix.
