system not restoring

i lost a major homework assignment. i did not delete it and no one else uses
my pc. i clicked the link and it said that the file didn't exist. i have
tried numerous file recovery software programs with no luck. they only find
the shortcut to the document. i have tried several times with different
dates to restore my system as a resort. however, it always tells me that the
restore was incomplete and to choose a different date. every date i have
tried results with the same incomplete error. can anyone please offer me
some advice?

Hi Mike,

System Restore does not monitor document file types. So SR would be no
help in getting the document back.

As for the System Restore problem, the majority of the time this is
caused by a corrupt restore point. Turning System Restore off then on
again will purges all existing restore points, and creates one new one.

There are also other possibilities that can cause this to happen. The
