System Restore doesn't work

Hi
In my continuing quest to try to solve my problem of windows not minimizing
in the taskbar, I had the idea of restoring the system to a previous time
when it all worked fine. However, whichever restoration point I choose,
System Restore won't restore the settings to that date and keeps displaying
the Restoration Incomplete dialogue box.

I'd be very grateful for any solutions.

Hi Jo,

The majority of the time this is caused by a corrupt restore point.
Turning System Restore off then on again will purges all existing
restore points, and creates one new one.

Try running System Restore from Safe Mode.
Restart your computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to
start your computer in Safe Mode.

Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account
that has administrator credentials.
In Safe Mode type or paste the following command in the Start - Run box
then press Enter.

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

There are also other possibilities that can cause this to happen. The
following pages have some troubleshooting steps to take.

Yeh, also it wouldn't hurt if you repair windows. Repairing windows will
preservie all your programs and only repair those system files. To repair,
insert you windows cd > setup > new install > repair

Windows will give you the option to repair the installed windows or install
a brand new windows from scratch.....

Thank you to you both. I think I'll try repairing Windows as it seems the
least complicated option for sorting out my misbehaving Windows.

Hi Bert,

Thanks for the link. On second thought, the instructions look alarmingly
complicated and the outcome potentially disasterous if something goes wrong!
Maybe I'll take my system unit along to my trusty PC repair man, even if it
means shelling out. I'm still a computer novice and don't want to turn bad
into worse!

There are a lot of warning, but as long as you have your data backed up,
it's safe to perform.

Thanks, Bert. But I'll take the unit down to the computer man as I'm not too
confident without someone standing by to hold my hand. Thanks for your
support.
