System Restore does not Restore

When trying to carry out a system restore I am informed that my computer
cannot be restored to an earlier date even though there are system restore
points available.
System Restore is set up in system properies and the drive is being monitored.
As it is my restore points only go back as far as 01.01.09
How may I get the system restore to do what it should and how can I recover
restore points prior to 201.01.09

may be a problem being
caused by your anti virals.

they might be trying to
prevent/protect your system
from being modified.

what you might try is to
disable or uninstall your
antivirals and try the restore
again.

you can also try a restore
via safe mode.

and then you can also use
your windows cd and perform
a "repair installation".

the method above will replace
missing or corrupted system
files with genuine ones from
the cd.

then it will make a brand new
restore point to begin anew
and delete the old/outdated ones.

How do I do a restore using safe mode?
As I am running windows xp SP3 will I still be able to use my windows
installation disk with SP2 as you suggest and repair the program?

but it also has very good
information that I think would
be of interest to you.

so read it carefully and completely
until you get an idea of the
methodology initiating a clean
boot first, then a system restore
if still needed..

in regards to the sp3 o.s. vs
the sp2 cd, they are incompatible
so the repair option won't work
unfortunately.

so either you can uninstall sp3
via a/r programs and return your
system to sp2 "or" try to create
your own sp3 cd via a method
known as "slipstreaming".
