Standby Mode

I'm running Win XP Home on a Sony VAIO laptop.
There is an option to hit <Fn> + <Esc> to put the laptop into standby
mode.
This key combination no longer has any effect.
When I choose Start | Turn Off Computer | Standby, that similarly has no
effect....

Does anyone have any ideas why I might have lost the ability to go into
Stanby mode....?

BTW - what's the difference between microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
and microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics?

Hi. Try going into the control panel and going to power options/advanced.
