Internet connection delay.

Hi,

Aresuming from standby, my pc, wired to the router, takes 20-30 seconds to
connect to the internet.

My PC:

Sony Vaio Laptop centrino
Win XP Pro SP2 + latest patches.
Latest driver for Intel NIC (Wired)
Latest Bios

I have tried the followings but it has no made any different. My other two
pcs connected to the same router/firewall connect immediately after standby.
My Router is DHCP and asigns static reserved IPs to each device on my
network.

Unchecked "Allow computer to turn this device off to save power" in Device
manager>Power management>Intel NIC.
Disabled software firewall on my sony laptop.

Any ideas why?

Systems vary in how fast they resume from Standby. Actually by
disabling the NIC's ability to enter low power mode may have the
opposite effect of what you're after. The firewall wouldn't impede
the network card/LAC from resuming.
Your post is unclear on TCP/IP configuration. Are the NICs setup
with Static IP addresses or do you rely on the router to use DHCP
for a dynamic IP address. Once a NIC is assigned an IP it should
retain that IP even after a "Sleep Mode" is entered.

Hi R. McCarty,

My pc's NIC is not setup with static ip, it accepts the IP given by router
which acts as DHCP server. In my router's config page, a static IP is
reserved for my pc's NIC, so it always assigns same IP to my PC.
Actually during that 20-30 second delay, command window>ipconfig shows
assigned ip and I can actually ping an internet address, but my browsers,
IE, FireFox, Opera, cannot connect or display any page.

I hope this makes sense.

I have the same problem only from bootup. Three computers from a Linksys
8-port router have the problem. Have to wait 20 seconds until computer
icons come up in system tray. Also unable to bring up Start | Connect To
box. Checked Task Manager and it is sitting at 99% idle but it sounds like
HDD is churning. I can run IPConfig and get proper readings but no
connection.

XP Pro fully updated.
Perplexed
