Standby Mode not holding

In the past week when I put the computer into Standby it goes to tandby for
2-3 seconds then turns off. No change I am aware of in that time period. Some
time it works fine but most time now it shuts down. Any suggestions please.
I have XP SP2 installed in December.
 
I've had the same problem with a Compaq Presario notebook. Has anybody found
a fix? I tried to reinstall from scratch but the problem persists.
