Won't stay in standby

If I go to Start, Turn Off Computer, and click StandBy, my PC goes into
standby, but it won’t stay there. After about 30 seconds it comes out of
standby. If I go to Display Properties and select a time period of
inactivity before turning StandBy on, standby will come on automatically and
stay on. Can anyone tell me why the manual setting does not work?

From what you explain; when you do it manually there is something in the
background running. When you do it after a period of inactivity whatever was
running is shut down. Also, verify that 'wake on lan' is not active in BIOS
and you have no scheduled events..
