returning from hibernation..

I just got a new laptop and it's connected to the internet through a network.
On my pc... it would go to standby and everything would appear as it was
before when i shook the mouse. With my laptop.. i've noticed that I need to
hit the power button to return from hibernation or standby. The thing that is
bothering me is how my network goes down when I go to hibernate or standby. I
return and my instant messaging program has been signed off and a box pops up
saying that a network cable is disconnected. Then a few seconds later.. the
internet connects again and my instant messaging program signs me back on. Is
there anyway to change something so that my internet and instant messaging
program will stay connected while my computer is in hibernation or standby?

i'm not sure, but it sounds like you want to have the services still running
while the machine is in hibernation. But this would be impossible since the
machine has no electricity to run these services while in hibernation.

I don't use the standby feature as this is a waste of electricity and
component lifespam due to heat degredation......

Standby uses very little power. My laptop will run for about 2 hours
on just the battery, but in standby mode will 'run' for several days
on just the battery.

Hi MC,

Go into your Power Options located in the Control Panel. You can make
changes to the Power Options, there. However, you can have the Laptop,
plugged into the Wall, then you will be on Electric power.

You can set the Power schemes to Always on. Then under that change the
Settings for Always On power scheme.
Turn off monitor: After 5 minutes.
Turn off hard disks: Never
System standby: Never
System hiberates: Never

Oh, disable any Screen Savers from working. You don't need it, when the
monitor goes off after 5 minutes.
