I had to re-install Windows XP Home edition because of various infections -
hijack viruses that couldn't be cleaned or deleted. The reinstall went very
well. Computer is very clean. But, now I cannot put laptop in Standby or
Hibernation mode. The option is now missing (greyed out) in the Sut Down
dialog box. How can I restore?

A driver is the software that operates a hardware device. The video
driver is the software that operates your video card.

There are several ways to install a video driver, and this is probably
the easiest:

1. Open Device Manager.
2. Double-click on the type of device you want to install. In your case,
that's Display Adapters.
3. Double-click on the name of your video card.
4. Select the Driver tab.
5. Click on Update.
6. Follow the Wizard.
