Standby button is disabled

N

Nice but Dim

Hi,
I have acquired an old pc for my grandaughter to use ... I have updated
windows XP to SP2 and all the later releases
When shutting down the Standby button is labelled Standby but is disabled
(greyed out) ...
However, if I enable hibernation the button is labelled Hibernate and is
available

What can I do to restore the correct functionality of this button

Regards & TIA
