Everytime I start Outlook 2003 with BCM, I have the following error message :

"Business Contact Manager for Outlook database cannot be loaded. This action
cannot be completed because Business Contact Manager cannot access the
database. SQL Server does not exist or access denied. Do you want to change
the database configuration ?"

Can you help ?

Hi Jacques

Is BCM pointing to a valid Database?
What happens if you say Yes to changing the Database configuration

Thanks!

I think it is pointing to a valid database.
There is an additionnal message now : "SQL server could not find the
specified named instance (MICROSOFTSMLBIZ) - please specify the name of an
existing instance on the invocation of sqlservr.exe
If you believe that your installation is corrupt or has been tampered with,
uninstall and re-run setup to correct this problem".
If I click Yes, I have this message :
"This action cannot be completed because Business Contact Manager cannot
access the database. SQL Server does not exist or access denied."
I click OK then I cannot select a database because it's gray but I can click

Hi Jaques

Thanks for the reply
Is the MICROSOFTSMLBIZ instance running on your machine?
Go to Start > Run and in the run box enter "services.msc" (without the
quotes) and run that command
In the list of services is there a listing for MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ? If
so, it is running?

Thanks!

Hi Jacques

Can you verify that the following keys exists in the registry?
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLSERVER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MICROSOFTSMLBIZ

Also, are you logged into the machine as an Administrator?

Thanks!

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLSERVER exist but the second one don't exist.
But HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server exist and
inside there is the "Component Set" key.

I'm not logged as Administrator but as Jacques who has the computer

Question,
We cannot log into the server (peer-peer network) from other machines.
Can't find the database. Larry Mentions to find these two registry keys. But
who says that there needed to be the "Component Set" key? My server doesn't
have it. Is it nessasery and if so what do I need to do to add it? Manually
or reinstall? There is a little confusion as to ho to add users also. Just
add their machine login name and their password? Should it show up as
\\Server\Login\ or \\Workstation\Login after it has been added to the server?

Thanks for the help...

Try Renaming the component set key and reinstalling BCM/MSDE
It sounds like it is not installing correctly

I renamed it, then I removed Outlook 2003 with Business Contact manager
update, then I tried to remove Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine

Hi Jacques

Sorry for the delay - I was out of the office
Does this folder exist? C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ?
When you reinstalled Outlook & BCM, were their any errors?

Can you attach the Errorlog files (in a single .ZIP file)? They should be
in this folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ\LOG

Thanks!

Hi Pat

I have seen the InstanceCompnentSet.x value below
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\Component Set
cause setup problems in the past.

I am not sure I understand the remainder of your question involving sharing
regarding adding users etc.... I don't believe you will ever see a SQL
Database showup under \\Servername

Everytime I start Outlook 2003 with BCM, I have the following
error
message :

"Business Contact Manager for Outlook database cannot be
loaded.
This
action
cannot be completed because Business Contact Manager cannot
access
the
database. SQL Server does not exist or access denied. Do you
want to
change
the database configuration ?"

Can you help ?

This folder exist. There was no error during the install.
The newest file in log is ERRORLOG, the date modified is 9/14/2005 and its
size is 2 KB, I don't know how to attach a file in this newsgroup.

Hi Jacques

Sorry for the delay - I was out of the office
Does this folder exist? C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ?
When you reinstalled Outlook & BCM, were their any errors?

Can you attach the Errorlog files (in a single .ZIP file)? They should be
in this folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ\LOG

Thanks!

I renamed it, then I removed Outlook 2003 with Business Contact manager
update, then I tried to remove Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine
(MICROSOFTSMLBIZ) but I had a "Fatal error during installation". Then I
installed Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MICROSOFTSMLBIZ) and
Outlook
2003 with Business Contact manager update and I have the same problem.

Hi Jaques

Try Renaming the component set key and reinstalling BCM/MSDE
It sounds like it is not installing correctly

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLSERVER exist but the second one don't
exist.
But HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server exist
and
inside there is the "Component Set" key.
I have Windows XP Home Edition and Office 2003 Professional Edition.
I'm not logged as Administrator but as Jacques who has the computer
administrator account type.
Thanks very much for your help, I hope we can solve this because I
can't
use
Business Contact Manager.

Hi Jacques

Can you verify that the following keys exists in the registry?
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLSERVER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL
Server\MICROSOFTSMLBIZ

Also, are you logged into the machine as an Administrator?

Thanks!

Yes, it's there but the service is stopped.
I tried to start it and I had this error message :
"SQL Server could not find the specified named instance
(MICROSOFTSMLBIZ) -
please specify the name of an existing instance on the invocation of
sqlservr.exe.
If you believe that your installation is corrupt or has been
tampered
with,
uninstall then re-run setup to correct this problem."

:

Hi Jaques

Thanks for the reply
Is the MICROSOFTSMLBIZ instance running on your machine?
Go to Start > Run and in the run box enter "services.msc" (without
the
quotes) and run that command
In the list of services is there a listing for
MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ?
If
so, it is running?

Thanks!

I think it is pointing to a valid database.
There is an additionnal message now : "SQL server could not find
the
specified named instance (MICROSOFTSMLBIZ) - please specify the
name
of
an
existing instance on the invocation of sqlservr.exe
If you believe that your installation is corrupt or has been
tampered
with,
uninstall and re-run setup to correct this problem".
If I click Yes, I have this message :
"This action cannot be completed because Business Contact Manager
cannot
access the database. SQL Server does not exist or access denied."
I click OK then I cannot select a database because it's gray but
I
can
click
on "create a new database", which I do, then I click "Next", then
I
have
"Database creation was unsuccessful".

:

Hi Jacques

Is BCM pointing to a valid Database?
What happens if you say Yes to changing the Database
configuration

Thanks!
