SP4 update failure

A

Allan

I have tried to install Service Pack 4 and repeatedly get
the error message, "Unable to connect to metabase.".
followed by, "Setup failed to remove ism.dll script
mappings. Service Pack Setup will abort." Anyone know
what's going on and how I can get around this? Thanks.

Hello Allan,
Hope you have IIS running on the PC. Can you try stopping all IIS related
Services? If that dosent solve the issue, please try the below steps in
order...

1) In the IIS Manager, right click on the machine name-> Properties->

Master properties for WWW service-> Home Directory tab-> Configuration

button.

2) Find the .htr extension and if it is mapped to ism.dll, change it to

point to C:\winnt\system32\inetsrv\asp.dll

3) Restart IIS

4) Check in the folder C:\winnt\system32\inetsrv\ if ism.dll exists. If it

does not, copy this file over from another machine. We have configured IIS

not to point to ism.dll in step 2, but just in case during SP4 install,

this file is needed, we can be sure it exists.

5) Disable the IISAdmin service (and WWW), set the start up type to Manual

and reboot the machine.

6) Try installing SP4 now.

7) If this doesn't work, boot into safe mode and try again.

8) Once SP4 install is complete, enable the IIS services and start them.

Hope this helps!!!

Thanks,
