SP2: Windows Messenger vs MSN Messenger

I have had the MSN Messenger installed on my computer. After the
installation of XP SP2, I now have Windows Messenger as well. So, I have 2
(seemingly) identical messengers available on my computer now. Would you
suggest I de-install MSN Messenger and keep Windows Messenger as the only
messenger on my system? Or this might remove some common files used by
both?.. Thanks! -- Mark.

They are separate programs, of which Windows Messenger is installed by default along with XP. MSN Messeneger is one that is downloaded and installed as a separate program. I would recommend simply using MSN, as it does the same thing. You can remove Windows Messenger, or simply leave it, but have it set to not run when when you start Windows, or Outlook Express.

Go here:

Scroll down to Messenger, and make choice. Be sure you distinguish your choices between the two programs.

msn messenger is better, if your using outlook and you use a windows
messenger removal tool then outlook will take longer to load, if you
remove manually from registry it will load normally, if you keep both
then you will be losing valuable cpu resources since windows messenger
will always want to run in the background
