Disable MSN Messenger...

I need a way to disable or cripple MSN Messenger (not windows messenger) from
my computer. I dont want to uninstall it, just prevent it from running. I
tried deleting the executable but when I open the start menu shortcut, it
will re-install itself. Deleting the installation executable didn't help
either because it keeps re-installing itself no matter what I do or delete.
Another thing I tried to do is change the target on the shortcut but there is
no option to do this.

I searched the web and i search this and other newsgroups and forums but
most tell me how to disable Windows Messenger and not MSN Messenger. What
else can I try?

Thanks for your time, Javi

I'm pretty close to deleting Windows and installing Linux :(

Messenger is just one of the many things that annoy me. I, for one, rather
spend my time doing other things rather than trying to get Windows to work
right (whatever that means). I've had my computer for about 2 years and I
still haven't got to fixing everything on it. Some of the things that I need
to figure out is:

1) Why does it freeze when I try to burn files.
2) Why can't I delete a folder after I move a file out of it.
3) Why can't I properly eject my USB MP3 player on my computer, but I can on
other computers. It tells me that the device cannot be stopped and I can
eject my camera and external DVD burner just fine.
4) Why does my task bar disappears at times for about 10-15 seconds then
comes back. I have about 4-5 spyware scanners and Norton Internet Security
all up to date and no spyware, malware, or virus show up on the scans.
5) Why can't I disable MSN Messenger 7.5 or prevent it from running. The
thing automatically installs itself when i click on the shortcut.

I can't think of the other problems I am having, not to mention the ones I
took care of now and the ones that are about to happen.

Who knows though, maybe Linux will give me more trouble...

I need to stop it from running when some one clicks the shortcuts. It doesn't
automatically start when I boot my computer.

though, thanks.

So bury the shortcut so deep that they can't find it.

If you don't want it, why don't you just uninstall it? Yes, it CAN be
uninstalled. It is NOT part of the operating system.

Put your xp cd in your cd drive.
Click Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows
Components
In the Windows Component Wizard, scroll down to and remove the check next to
Windows Messenger , click next and follow directions.
