Removing Windows Live Messenger in XP

Hi,

I have tried many different ways to disable or remove Windows live Messenger
but it still pops up on start up. I have tried editing the registry, removing
Messenger folder from C\Proram Files\Messenger and various other ways
described in Doug Knox's article titled Windows Messenger in XP.
I also tried Microsoft Article ID: 302089 to prevent Windows Messenger from
running on a XP based computer.
I also tried removing it with Easy Cleaner but it always comes back.

Is there a good tried & proven method to remove or completely disable
Windows Messenger.

Thanks

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the reply & info.

After some digging yesterday I discovered that there are two "Messengers".
They are both in C:\Program Files. One is in a folder titled "messenger" and
the other one is in a folder titled "Windows Live".

I believe Microsoft Article ID: 302089 refers to the C:\Program
Files\Messenger whereas my problem was with the Windows Live "Messenger".

I have renamed the Windows Live folder to Windows LiveOLD and this currently
has eliminated my problem with Messenger pop ups at boot up.
I don't know if this will create any other problems later but so far
everything seems to be running OK.

Thanks. I did sign up for your forum.
