SP2 Security Center Issue

H

HAL9000

I installed SP2 and everytime I boot my computer the
alert shows up saying I don't have a firewall. I disable
this alert and disable the Windows Firewall, but after a
new reboot it alerts me again! I don't want to use
Windows Firewall but it doesn't seem to go away. Anyone
notice this problem? I'm using Norton Internet Security
2003 and the Security Center does not recognize it as
firewall. Regardless I just want to disable the warning
alerts.

.
There are 3 places to disable this, go to control panel
and open windows firewall icon, turn off firewall, then
open security center and on recommendations button, click
I want to monitor my own, then go to left side of
security center window and click on I want to change the
way security center alerts me and take the tick off of
firewall. When you reboot and go to control panel and
security center to check your settings it will seem they
are still on but just give it a minute to reset itself
and you should be fine. Hope this helps you. Took me
awhile to figure out why mine kept coming on but have it
licked now lol.

Hi

You could disable the Security Center service and see if it helps.

Start/Run --> services.msc

Find "Security Center" in the list, double click on it, set
"Startup type" to Disabled.

There is also a Group Policy setting available to disable the
Security Center (Start/Run--> gpedit.msc).

Take a look at the chapter for the Security Center in
06_CIF_Maintenance.DOC

Security Center
What settings are added or changed in Windows XP Service Pack 2?
Group Policy settings (page 26 for me)

06_CIF_Maintenance.DOC ("Changes to Functionality in Microsoft Windows XP
Service Pack 2, Part 6: Computer Maintenance") can be downloaded from here:

Note: WinXPSP2_Documentation.zip contains all the .doc downloads...
