Disable Security System

I have followed the suggestions that I have read in regards to disabling my
Security Center to stop that irritating pop up I keep on getting.

When I do Run: services.msc - The Security System says it is already
Disabled. And I can't "change the way Security Center alerts me" because the
stupid thing is greyed out and won't give me access. Also, the Windows
Firewall won't let me shut it off "due to an unidentified problem, Windows
cannot display Windows Firewall Settings". I already have Norton for
Antivirus, etc. And McAfee for Firewall protection.

Can someone please help me disable, "kill" my Security Center forever!!

Thanks!

You'll have to be more specific about the "irritating popup". If you've disabled the Security Center service in Services, then it won't bother you, to my knowledge.

The popup says that my system has been infected by spyware. Yet when I run
Norton Spyware/Adware/Virus Scan it says everything is just fine.

Everytime I go to the Security Center in the Services are, it says that it
has been disabled. I even enabled it and then disabled it. Yet I still keep
getting this popup. Any ideas?

~ Welcome to the Smithfraud family house !!!
Your computer is infected (34 different threats were just found) . In order
to get rid of them all , goto that page and then ...oh , by the way , you
need to pay ... ~~~

At the end of my simple description of the Smithfraud trojans/spywares
situation , I would like to second Doug's words that this message is not from
the Security Center . You computer is infected and you should clean it
..Norton is poor with these trojans.

Thanks for your help Panda_man, your information really helped me get my
computer working smoothly again. I did have one question though?? Should I
keep the System Restore OFF? Or should I turn it back on once I know my
computer is free of spam, spyware, etc?

Thanks,
Rayne

Once you know your system is clean, turn it back on, if you want that functionality. The reason that malware winds up inside the restore point "cache" is that certain types of files (EXE, COM, etc.) are automatically monitored and copied there if they're deleted.

System restore should always be on. The point is that should something go
horribly wrong in your cleaning of the system (e.g. windows no longer
functions) you'll have a way to resort to a functioning (albiet infected)
state.

Reasoning: A leaky lifeboat is better than no lifeboat at all ;)

Once the system is clean of malware, flush system restore.

Good Luck!
