sp2 firewall will not stay disabled after reboot how do you fix this?

Since the install I checked: I have a firewall soultion that i'll monitor
myself" (I am on xp pro running norton firewall 2003)

I unchecked in Security Center in Change the way security Center alerts me-
the firewall section "alert Settings"

everytime i reboot this keeps rechecking itself and is screwing up my norton
firewall 2003 by disabling it.
On other newsgroups ppl are saying it seems to be doing the same to ZA too

As I read some of the posts in other newsgroups I am seeing the same thing
happen to
others. Is there a bug in sp2 firewall and if MS you are looking here you
need to send out a fix for this. or do you know of a fix to stop the
firewall from resetting itself?

thanks
robin

I too am having problems with SP2. In fact, This new
security feature has reduced productivity. It constantly
interrupts and I cannot find any where to disable it. It
seems as if MS is not only intent on managing our
computers but also our LAN/WAN. Now many of my back-
office progams cannot function.

PLease someone identify how to uninstall this piece of
junk.

I'm having the same problem. I check the box that says I
not to monitor the firewall and next reboot it resets
itself and keeps warning me. This is maddening, SP2 is
probably the WORST service pack I've ever seen! It has
slowed down my PC although I've disabled all the security
features I can (of course this one keeps re-enabling
itself). Nice job Microsoft, you've done it again!

Hi

You could disable the Security Center service and see if it helps.

Start/Run --> services.msc

Find "Security Center" in the list, double click on it, set
"Startup type" to Disabled.

There is also a Group Policy setting available to disable the
Security Center (Start/Run--> gpedit.msc).

Take a look at the chapter for the Security Center in
06_CIF_Maintenance.DOC

Security Center
What settings are added or changed in Windows XP Service Pack 2?
Group Policy settings (page 26 for me)

06_CIF_Maintenance.DOC ("Changes to Functionality in Microsoft Windows XP
Service Pack 2, Part 6: Computer Maintenance") can be downloaded from here:

Note: WinXPSP2_Documentation.zip contains all the .doc downloads...
