i have norton antivirus, which is running properly, but my sp2 security
center is telling me that i need to check the status of norton antivirus
because it "reports it is installed, but its status is unknown". does anyone
know how to remedy this problem?

It isn't a problem. Windows is just telling you that it doesn't know if
Norton is up to date, but Norton does.

*1 hour later...
i figured it out. norton is automatically configured to not shareits status
with other apps. i just had to uncheck the box in settings.

to "Geoffrey" Re 8/25 Norton Anti Virus not being
recognised by Windows Security Centre (WSC).- Symantec is
aware. It will be fixed in a future Live Update. See link
to their SP2 FAQ's.

In the meantime, I received this advice from Microsoft
Support. "You can configure the WSC by doing this:
1. Click Start/ Control Panel, doubleclick on the new SP2
Security center Icon.
2. Unfold Virus Protection (down Arrows)
3. Click Recommendations.
4. Select the "I have an anti-virus program that I'll
monitor myself"; check box, click okay."

Once Live Update fixes it we should probably uncheck the
box again to be realy secure. "Lilian"

Where is this check box to allow Norton to share status? I
can't find it
