Norton AntiVirus not monitored

C

Clark

I have installed and updated Norton AntiVirus 2004 but
the Windows Security Alert gives me the following
message: "Norton AntiVirus reports that it is installed,
but its status is unknown."

I have uninstalled and reinstalled plus updated all
definitions.

Any advice?

Thank you!

Norton antivirus 2004 is not allowing itself to be
monitored by sp2. Norton had stated they were going to
release an update but is now stating that this update is
delayed.
As long as you are monitoring your virus program, there
isn't a problem. However, if you are really worried about
it, upgrade to NAV 2005 as it is able to integrate the
sp2 security center.

I have NAV 2004 installed as part of NIS 2004 and WinXP SP2 detects and
monitors it fine. If it's a problem, it's only related to the stand-alone
product.

Thank you so much for you quick answer. I will await the
update.

You stated that you installed and updated NAV 2004. I assume you
mean you used Norton's LiveUpdate facility. That being said, you
should already have the Norton WMI Update. One way to check is
to open Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and see if the
Norton WMI Update is there. If it isn't you need to run
LiveUpdate. If it is, then just tell the Microsoft Security
Center to stop alerting you.

there is nothing to wait for.
The 2004 line already has the update available:

If you have 2004 and are still not monitored, contact Norton.
Hi

Symantec have temporary retracted the 2004 update, from the Web
page listed above:

"The Norton WMI update for 2004 products, previously available
through LiveUpdate, has been removed for maintenance purposes.
An updated Norton WMI is projected to be available in late
September/early October through LiveUpdate for these products:
[snip]"

Torgeir, thanks for this info. nowhere on the site did I see this and
I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting the wmi update via live
update. Thanks much,

The Notion WMI update has been re-released and posted to the Norton website.
If you have Norton Firewall and/or Norton Antivirus, all one has to do is
run LiveUpdate and then reboot.
