SP2 and wireless laptop

I have a toshiba laptop wireless connected to a linksys router, sharing my
high speed internet. I keep hearing from several people now, not to update to
SP2, because the wireless connection will not work after the update. Is that
true and should I update now anyway?

Not completely ture. Your wireless configuration may have to be redone (at
your laptop) because SP2 is adding a lot of wireless utilities. Also, with
SP2, you will be getting a better Windows XP firewall. Howver, it is not
like to other firewalls out this (still lame!)

I seen a reference to the wireless causing problems with sp2 installed. I
would go to the manufacturers website to see if they have any issues or
updates prior to installing sp2

I updated my Toshiba laptop to SP2 and it never skipped a beat on my
wireless network at home. Toshiba has approved and recommends
installing SP2 (statement on their support web page). They do have a
new "Config Free" program to download which works better with SP2
although the older version works fine.

I would say go for it. Make a complete image backup of your Toshiba
before applying the update. If anything goes wrong, restore the
image.

Ulli:

No problems here with XP Home/Pro SP2 and Orinoco PC card and USB card into
a Orinoco AP.

However, with Linksys products I would check their web site for new
firmware/driver updates before I did the SP2 install.

I installed SP2 along while ago and noticed no problem with my wireless card
/ internet service on my Satellite laptop. However, I did just notice that it
won't readily recognize other items (hardware like HP camera or mass storage
unite) plugged into any USB ports.
I'm on line right now typing this so the wireless card is in use but
considering shutting down, removing the card, rebooting and trying other
devices / hardware.

I just did two Toshiba Satellites yesterday. First, make sure the laptop
is completely spyware and virus-free. I'll give you some links to help
you prepare your machine for SP2. Second, *before* you install SP2, go
to Toshiba's website and find the support for your particular model.
There are some patches for Toshiba software to make it compatible with
SP2. Download the patches. Follow all installation instructions.

In addition to what you'll find at the following links, I always
disconnect a machine I'm upgrading from the Internet, have no programs
running in the background, and have only the necessary processes
running. With proper preparation, your Toshiba will be fine.
