SP 2 hotmail

SP2 was installed through Auto. Update. Since then, I haven't been able to
access my hotmail account at www.hotmail.com. When I type in my password, I
get the message:
The .NET Passport service is currently unavailable at this Web site for one
of these reasons:

• The site may contain an error or be experiencing a problem that affects
the .NET Passport service.
• The site may not be an official .NET Passport-participating site.

Is there anything I can do to access my Hotmail without uninstalling SP2?

When I installed the large "IT" version of Service Pack 2, I had the same
problem, got that message on Hotmail's site, and couldn't get past the "Sign
In" page of MSN Home or MSN Chat (I pay for "Extra Storage" to get chat). I
emailed MSN, never got a reply, so posted in a .net Passport and MSN
Messenger group, because I could log into MSN Messenger, but not chat
through MSN Messenger. One of the MVP's posted a list of things to check or
do, and nothing worked until I uninstalled the large SP2, which was the
final release.
I waited until the SP2 was available via Windows Update, installed it from
there instead, the "Sign In" problem was no longer present. But since you
say you updated via Windows Update, afraid I don't have any advice. Just
thought I would share my experience.

IE6 SP2: Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>Sites> type in

passport.net
hotmail.com
msn.com

and Allow All Cookies, in turn, for each.

..NET Passport log-on should be treated as a Secure Site:

Or the .NET Passport service is currently unavailable. (Wouldn't be the
first time!)

Hi

This effect was most likely caused by the SP2 uninstall and then
install part. Whether you install SP2 using the 266 MB large file,
or use Windows Update, they will install exactly the same.

Also note that the large "IT" version file is exactly the same file
that is on the SP2 CD you can order from Microsoft.
