What's the problem with Hotmail?

Guest

I'm trying to access hotmail (www.hotmail.com) and each time the
screen flickers a number of times and shows a series of lines (like
URL's) on the bottom line of IE. Then up comes Hotmail with the
message:

******begin quote

The .NET Passport service is currently unavailable at this Web site
for one of these reasons:

• The site may contain an error or be experiencing a problem that
affects the .NET Passport service.
• The site may not be an official .NET Passport-participating site.

You can:

• Return to this site later and try to sign in or register again.
• Sign in or register for a .NET Passport at another .NET Passport
participating site. .NET Passport Site Directory

******end quote

I don't normally visit Hotmail so this may not be a new phenomenon. No
one else I know has difficulty accessing the site. OTOH I don't have
this problem with any other site. I also have no idea what ".NET
Passport" is.

Can anyone help?

TIA

Found the problem (or at least the solution): I'm running a pop-up
blocker, Guard-IE, and if I turn it off hotmail comes up as it should.
It also turns out that I was running an older version (2.something) so
after I updated to the current one (3.4) hotmail comes up normally
even with Guard-IE turned on.

Whew.....
