can't sign into hotmail from IE,

G

Guest

I get the message that
The .NET Passport service is currently unavailable at this Web site for one
of these reasons:

• The site may contain an error or be experiencing a problem that affects
the .NET Passport service.
• The site may not be an official .NET Passport-participating site.

I can sign in from mozilla, so I know there is nothing wrong with the site.
I can sign into MSN messager, but still cannot access my email from there.

thanks.

Hi deb :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Can't access Hotmail or Yahoo

Trouble logging into Hotmail

http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_10.htm#hotmail

and...

Tools>Internet Options>Security>Advanced>Custom Level> change each of the
ActiveX Controls setting respectively down the list to the following:

Change the following in order:
Prompt
Disable
Disable
Prompt
Prompt

also......

Remove MSN Messenger v6.2

and.....

#1.-- You need to be logged on as an Administrator if running Windows XP
(have Full Rights) otherwise you will be limited to "Chat" and will not be
able to Modify/Delete/Change Files or transfer/send or receive files,
E-mails etc.

#2.-- Go To START >RUN> type in the Input window: ReGsvr32.exe softPUB.DLL "

#3.-- Change the Internet Explorer Settings: Tools>Internet
Options>Security>Setting> and set to Medium or Low...

#4.-- Uninstall MSN Messenger... Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>
find MS Messenger and uninstall it.

#5.-Repair Internet Explorer. Then reinstall MSN messenger... NOT the beta
v6.

#6.-- If you are using a proxy, make sure the settings are correct. If you
use LAN, then check to be sure the "Proxy server" box is Unchecked.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Hi mommajayne :)

Hmmm...;/ .....<hmfpt!>....Danggg!! When ya get one.....ya really get one
don'cha. ;o)) <kidding>

Did you uninstall the Messenger? If so..what happened? Did you reinstall
the v6.2 Messenger?

'Ok.....wellll.......first.....try the following and see if it helps:

Also..try updating your script engine: Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000
and XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...43-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en
After installing the download, restart your computer and see if it corrects
the problems.

If not......try the next one:

Try enabling the Meta Refresh in Tools>Internet Options> Security>
Custom>Enable Meta Refresh

also........

Check your HOSTS file for anything that might be blocked. You can find the
HOSTs file in:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

That's based on Windows XP Pro, but it should be in the same place on WinXP
Home.

You may have to turn off hidden files to find this; that can be done by (in
Windows Explorer) clicking Tools > Options > View > select "Show hidden
files and folders" > OK.

How Do I Use the HOST File?
http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/how_to_use_hosts.html

How to Edit HOST File:
http://www.lithiumdata.com/QandA/hosts.htm

How to check HOSTS file

Windows/host (it will not have an extension, and if there is more than one,
choose the one that says Application in a column to the right) . Right click
on it and select Open with.....when the window opens, scroll down the list
to Notepad. Once it opens in Notepad, scroll down the list to see if that
site is in the list. If so, DO NOT delete it, just go to the very front of
the line to the left and enter # in front of the line so that it looks
similar to the one below, as the entries with # in front will be ignored.

# Entries with other comments are searchable via Google.

Then click the save button and close. Then try the site again.

For more information on the HOSTS file check here
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_10.htm#hosts

Also...make sure that the website is added to your Trusted sites in the IE
Security.

and....

Go to Tools >>Internet options >> security and klick custom level and click
at "Allow meta refresh" enable.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps
